Easter Cutie

This is the first Easter with my little girl.  That means getting to doll her all up in a pretty Easter dress. 

Sunday morning I got Kendall all ready for church and then left her for a few minutes to play while I pulled the last few things together before needing to leave the house.  I even took the extra precaution to put a bib on her.  Kendall is teething and when she does she tends to spit up, which I'm well aware of.  So I wasn't that surprised that when I went to scoop her up to get her out the door that she had puke on her bib.  What I wasn't expecting was for it to be on every inch of her bib, have a large puddle on her lap as well as on her sweater (an extra layer of protection) and that she would have chewed on the sleeves of her sweater after she spit up.  Luckily he dress is a dark purple and she cleaned up nicely with some scrubbing.  Crisis averted.  I did have a back up by the way, but it certainly wasn't as cute. 

So the moral of the story is: a) don't get her dressed until the last second you're about to go out the door, and b) you can dress her up, but you need to wipe her down before you take her out.

Cole And The Beanstalk

My son loves the show Super Why!  If you haven't seen the show, its about 4 characters (Whyatt, Pig, Red Riding Hood, and Princess Pea) that live in a Fairytale land called Storybrook Village.  Every episode, one of the characters has a problem.  In order to solve this problem the characters take on their Super persona's (Super Why, Alpha Pig, Wonder Red, and Princess Presto) to enter a famous story book where they use letters, spelling, words and reading to help the characters dilemmas in the book and ultimately solve their own problem.  Its a really good show and since Cole is such a visual learner we're glad to let him watch it.

Friday was a beautifully sunny day here so we let the kids play outside.  In the meantime Dave began the process of tearing down a vine on the side of our house,which was used to conceal the gas metre line into the house and the satellite dish which belonged to the previous owners.  We had no use for the dish,and the vine was getting unruly and blocking us from seeing where our ant infestation was entering the house.  Cole came upon Dave on the ladder grabbing this vine while I was holding the bottom of the ladder.  He began to shout excitedly "beanstalk", "Jack and the Beanstalk".  He came over to the ladder and began tugging at the pieces on the ground that had already been removed.  I gave Cole a small piece of the vine and he began dancing around chanting "beanstalk" and bellowing "Fee, Fi, Foe, Fum".  He followed by jabbering his normal garbble and then proceeded to fall to the ground.  I instantly knew he was acting out one of his favourite Super Why! episodes ... Jack and the Beanstalk, of course!  That piece of vine kept that kid occupied for 45 minutes or more.  The whole episode put a smile on my face and totally made my day.  The "beanstalk" is currently residing in the playhouse outside since beanstalks aren't really an indoor plant.

The Verdict

Ahhh ... I can breath easier.  I got a great stylist who totally understood my hair.  She chastised me for it being so damaged (7 months of drying and ironing without a cut will do that).  Having bad hair on a highly social Easter weekend - averted.  Nicki will totally have my business in another 2 or 3 months. 

Also on the plus side, I had an hour and a half all to myself with no kids.  I didn't have to worry about feeding them dinner, or cleaning everything spotlessly afterward to keep the ants at bay.  Thank you one awesome husband!

Bad Hair Day?

I built up the nerve to make a hair appointment for myself today.  I haven't had my haircut since August, which of course is before we moved across the country.  (I have given myself a trim.)

Getting my haircut is a MAJOR subject of anxiety for me.  I have had more than my fair share of haircuts gone horribly wrong.  Seriously!  Once I walked out of a place with an up-do. I found out when I got home that the hairstylist probably only used me for practice because she was covering up the horrible job she did on my hair.  I then took 6 1/2 months to grow it out before my wedding ... scared of trusting anyone else before the most important hair day of my life.  Moving to a new city means a long cycle of trying someone new, growing out my cut and then figuring out who to go to next.  Not much stresses me out, but haircuts are the exception.

I think its because hairstylists have a hard time figuring out my hair.  Naturally its got a frizzy curly wave and is SUPER thick.  When I leave it to dry naturally its HUGE and takes all day to air dry.  Alternatively I blow dry and straighten the heck out of it every day (or at least when I'll be seen in public) with a straightening iron.  So it takes a special person to "get" my hair.  They need to give me a style that is straight, but cut it like it behaves like curly hair.  Confusing I know ... so I totally understand why I have such problems.

Now I realize that  I've bored you all with my hair vanity, but I really needed to release some of that stress before I exploded.  Of course if I did explode then I would have no need for a haircut ... No, I think I'll just suck it up.  Wish me luck!

It Pays to Sleep In

This morning my hubby was extremely kind to me and let me sleep in until I felt like getting up.  After I rolled out of bed at 10:30, I ate breakfast and then went on a cleaning rampage and did 3 loads of laundry.  Seriously ... I cleaned the whole upstairs level top to bottom, and even did things like cleaning the fronts of the stairs and scrubbed down the laundry tub.  I also worked out this evening with Jillian.  With a productive day like this, maybe my husband will let me sleep in more often ... right honey?!

Oh ... and you know you're in Ontario when you have to stop to kill a centipede in the middle of your workout.  Yuck!
